Caring for your Rusty Roosters Candles
Candles can create a warm and inviting atmosphere in your home with their soft glow and pleasant scents. However, it's crucial to use and care for them properly to avoid any potential hazards. Here’s a guide to ensure you enjoy your candles safely and responsibly.
Candle Placement and Environment
- Place on a Stable, Heat-Resistant Surface: Always set candles on surfaces that can withstand the heat, such as a ceramic plate or a metal holder. Avoid placing them on flammable or heat-sensitive surfaces like wooden tables or carpets.
- Keep Away from Flammable Materials: Ensure candles are at least 12 inches away from any flammable items, including curtains, books, and papers. This distance helps prevent accidental fires.
Candle Preparation and Lighting
- Trim the Wick: Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about ¼ inch. A shorter wick will help prevent the flame from becoming too large, which can cause excessive flickering or smoking.
Candle Use and Monitoring
- Never Leave Unattended: It’s imperative to never leave a burning candle unattended. This rule is especially important in homes with young children or pets, as they can accidentally knock over the candle.
- Monitor Candle Burn Time: Extinguish your candle when it has burned down to within 1 inch of the holder or candle surface. This precaution prevents the holder or surface from overheating, which could potentially start a fire.
Extinguishing and Relocating Candles
- Avoid Moving Lit Candles: Do not move a candle while it is lit. The flame can easily be extinguished or tipped over, posing a fire risk. If you must move it, ensure it's done cautiously and away from flammable materials.
- Use a Candle Snuffer for Extinguishing: To safely extinguish a candle, use a snuffer or a spoon to gently press down on the flame until it goes out. This method minimizes the risk of hot wax splattering and reduces fire hazards.
By following these guidelines, you can enjoy the ambiance and fragrance of candles while ensuring a safe environment for your home.
